EZOutlookSync FAQ

Q: How does EZOutlookSync determine if any object is newer and should be transferred?
A: We will explain the process step by step:
- EZOutlookSync compares certain set of fields for every data type and if finds that ALL of these fields do coincide with that in the other file - the items are considered to be identical
- EZOutlookSync will determine whether any of the two items is newer or older using "last modified" date
- EZOutlookSync will copy newer version to the other file, replacing older version
- The older version goes to the "Deleted Items" folder of the PST file

Q: Should I close Outlook before synchronization?
A: Yes, it is advised you close ALL applications that might be using the PST file you want to synchronize on all computers affected by synchronization.

Q: How do I know where my PST file is?

Q: I start synchronizing and notice that Outlook.exe process starts up. Is this normal?
A: Yes, that's absolutely OK. EZOutlookSync calls Outlook.exe to perform actions on PST files.

Q: Will "Views" I setup in one Outlook transfer to the other after synchronization?
A: No. Unfortunately, the View settings are properties of a particular Outlook installation. You will have to re-build the view manually, if want it transferred (should be done only once).

Q: Will macros synchronize?
A: No. Unfortunately, the macros are properties of a particular Outlook installation. You will have to manually copy them (should be done only once).

Q: If I delete items in one file- will they be deleted automatically upon synchronization in another?
A: Yes. First of all, please check that in Tools -> Options, "Allow deleting items" is enabled. If this is enabled, then EZOutlookSync would delete the items. By "deleting" we mean moving the item into "Deleted Items" folder.

Q: Can I synchronize only certain folders, i.e. Inbox, or Tasks?
A: Yes, absolutely. In the main window of the program, after you select both PST files, you can select the folders to be synchronized.

Q: My PST seems to be corrupted (does not open, gives errors). What can I do?
A: Microsoft provides the Inbox Repair Tool for correcting most problems with damaged Personal Folders .pst files. If you do not see the Inbox Repair Tool on the Start menu, under Programs | Accessories | System Tools, use Start | Find or Start | Search (depending on your operating system) to search your system for Scanpst.exe. Run it and it may fix the problem.

Q: I synchronized, but there is a difference in file sizes. Why is that?
A: That's OK. As long as the number of items in each folder coincides- you may be sure that was a complete sync. Size difference might be due to fact that your PST files are not compacted, or otherwise not evenly using the space.

Q: Does it mean that if I change the same task in two PST files in different ways, both tasks will be considered different and copied to both PSTs?
A: If you chage task text- no. But if you change task subject- yes. Future versions will include rule wizard to customize the settings for item comparison.
