Still not working with tasks/todo?

Post by sjordi »

HI,
I still have the same problem with EZOutlookSync Pro 2.01

When I sync, everything is fine, except the tasks.
Since they are date-time stamped, I guess that something gets mixed up.

Say that at the end of the day, I sync my Outlook at work and it syncs the tasks.
Once home, I sync with my laptop Outlook in order to consolidate data between work and home.
It's ok except for the ToDo Tasks marked as complete. They are duplicated.
They appear as "complete" + a new copy as not complete.
Same thing the next morning when I sync my laptop at home, then sync again at work, all the
tasks from the day before are marked as currently running instead of being marked as complete.

I have tried a lot of parameters.
What I have now is:
Compare Options->Tasks: all checked [X] except [ ] Body
Syncho options->Tasks: defaults to Synchronize all

Any way to fix this problem?

Thanks.

Please try to check all comparable options for Tasks (including body).

Another thing - you said you synchronized at work and then at home - with what? A PST file on a USB flash drive?

Hi,
Ok I will try with all check boxes.

I sync with two different PST files.
One at home and one subset at work.
In the tree I select the common folders

Regarding the tasks, it's just the basic folder.

It's like:

HOME ----sync----> USB drive ------> WORK

and at the end of the day

WORK ----sync----> USB drive ------> HOME

I have the PRO edition and it syncs to the PST file on my USB drive.

HOME: C:\My Documents\Outlook\MailBox.pst
syncs to
USB: H:\Documents\OutlookSync.pst
syncs to
WORK: C:\My Documents\Internet\SteveOutlook.pst
and vice-versa.

Everything works perfectly except the TASKS.
I have tried to reset this PST file on the USB drive but it doesn't change anything.

Steve, let's try to reproduce that.
Say you create a new Task on your home computer. Synchronize with your USB flash drive and then synchronize with your work computer - the task appears as it should on your work computer? Then if you mark it completed at work and synchronize the other way back to your home computer - will there be 2 identical tasks present on your home computer (one being a completed one, while the other is still active)? Thanks!

Yes that's exactly the point, but only for tasks that are in the past.
Typically, imagine this:
Monday morning, at home, I create a task "alpha" with today's date.
I sync Outlook. Once at work, I sync back. The task appears correctly at work.
Then I mark it as completed.
I sync at work, come home, sync and then the task appears as completed AND
as a new one.
I think that the problem is in the comparison between the dates and status.

I'm off for a vacation for a few day, if you want to investigate any further, I won't be able to answer you before next Tuesday.
:)

Have fun

Steve, I'm sorry but I cannot reproduce that. Doing everything like you described and end up with just a single (now completed) task in the first initial Outlook file. Please check whether there's just 1 completed task in the intermediate file after you synchronize it with your work computer (after had checked the task as completed). I'm starting to think that the problem might be somehow related to the intermediate. Maybe you should create a new one on your flash drive and see if it makes any difference? Thanks.

Hi,
thanks for the input.
When we checked this issue a few months ago, we tried already to create a new intermediate file on the USB key, without success.

I will check tonight, sync tomorrow morning, work all day, and sync back once home.
I will tell you exactly each step.

Ok... here is my experience on 3 days...

Info:
* "Mark as completed" means clicking on the flag. This switches
to a check mark, and strikes trhough the text of the task

* All these operations done in the Calendar Week view of Outlook 2007.

On Tuesday Aug 5th
==================
At home
- Created Task #1 on Monday 08/04
- Created Task #2 for Tuesday 08/05
- Sync at home
- Sync at work
- Tasks ok at work:
#1 on Tue with 08/04 - 08/04 ok
#2 with 08/05 ok
- Marked both #1 and #2 as DONE at work
- Added four tasks #3 to #6 for 08/05
- Added one task #7 for 08/06
- Sync at work
- Sync at home
- Task #1 appears twice. Once completed, once pending.
The pending one tooltip shows "In folder: EZOS [date] 17:29"
The completed one tooltip shows "In folder: Tasks"
Task #2 appears twice. Once completed, once pending.
The pending one tooltip shows "In folder: EZOS [date] 17:29"
The completed one tooltip shows "In folder: Tasks"

Tasks #3 to #7 correctly displayed at their respective dates.
- Tasks #1 and #2 (pending) manually deleted
- Tasks #3, #4 and #5 marked as completed
- Task #7 programmed for Aug 06 remains pending at its correct date
- All tasks except #6 on Aug 05 are marked as completed (done)
- Calendar shows only Task #7 on Aug 06 and Task #6 for Aug 05 (this is correct)

On Wednesday Aug 6th
====================
- At home, tasks #1 to #5 for previous day are marked completed (correct)
- "Today"'s task shows #7 pending. Correct.
- Pending task #6 for 08/05 moved to today 08/06. Correct.
- Sync at home
- Sync at work
- At work, Tasks #2 to #6 are present and PENDING (not completed) in Outlook,
in red (meaning in the past).
- Task #6 appears twice.
- On Tasks #2 to #5, the tooltip shows
Due date: 08/05
In folder: EZOS 2008/08/05 07:34
- The first instance of Task #6 shows
Due date: 08/05
In folder: EZOS 2008/08/05 07:34
- The second instance of Task #6 shows
Due date: 08/05
In folder: Tasks
- Task #7 due on 08/06 correctly appears in black.

Also, if in the task list view, I show all tasks, tasks #1 to #5 appear as
both completed AND pending:
[ ] Task #2
[X] Task #2
[ ] Task #3
[X] Task #3
[ ] Task #4
[X] Task #4
etc.

I think that this has to do with the time/date stamp.
I wonder whether the synchro should work if I uncheck the Start Date and
Due Date to ignore those during sync?
Do you want me to try this?

Steve, thanks for the detailed update on that. In Options, under the Synchronization Options please uncheck the Delete to folder option. This should do the trick. Let us know how it went. Thanks!

Ok I will let you know how this works once I get back home after
a sync at work when leaving and a sync at home when arriving.

Should this option take care of the status of the tasks? We'll see.

I'll keep in touch.

OK,

I have tested it on two days with tasks on a three days span and... IT WORKS!!!.

Thanks for your help.
Maybe, you should investigate why it syncs the "trash" if we check the "Delete to folder" option, which may be useful anyway.

But thanks for your support. Now I'm 100% happy :P

Glad to hear that everything's ok now :)

The program doesn't sync trash, actually. It deletes an obsolete non-completed task and replace it with a new completed one. The old non-completed item goes to a folder in Trash and that's what was shown to you - 1 new and 1 old task from a certain folder in Trash.
