What do Profiles do?

Post by grfxguy »

Logically, one would think that saving a profile would also save the folder selections that one wished to synchronize.

Since it doesn't do this, just what does a saved Profile actually save besides the location of the two files that you are syncing?

Then Profiles do several things:

- save folder selections (could you please check if really does not do so your end)
- more importantly, preserve information about all object in both PST files synchronized. It allows users to work independantly with each PST file, including deleting items. At synchronization, EZOutlookSync, using Profile data will determine which data was deleted and which was added and will bring both PST files up to date.
Without profile data it would be impossible to determine whether the item was deleted from one file, or, rather, it was added to another file (i.e. should we delete it from one file, or we should added to the second file).
Using profiles also makes synchronization faster.

Each Profile preserves information about items (but not items themselves) for one pair of PST files.

Hope I have expained it sufficiently.

Saving of selctions seems random. Most times it doesn't, then it occassionally surprises me.
