Outlook failed to add the personal store to this session

After I got this error message I checked the EZOutlookSync support, and was told that I needed to exit from Outlook on my remote computer. But still I was running into the same error message after having exited from Outlook. So I searched on the net to see if there is a way I can identify what programs or procedures are still locking Outlook.pst. This site:

http://www.jroller.com/page/markp/20040902

provided the exact solution I was looking for. It mentioned a program called process explorer that does just that; helps you identify what programs/procedures are using a particular file.

Take a look.

PST File Password Protected

I, too, had the same problem while trying to synchronize between a desktop-based PST and a laptop-based PST. I tried the "unlock" tool and that did not help. After an hour of toying around, here's what solved it for me: the PST file on the laptop was PASSWORD PROTECTED -- simply removing the password protection enabled the synchronization!

The clue was that EZOutlookSync never prompted me for the PST password. I set up a similar test with two desktop-based PST files: I password protected both, tried to open them in the synch tool, and got the same error.

So...the workaround for now seems to be to remove the PST file password protection at least for the duration of the synchronization. Not ideal, but it works.
